History

VillagePark29The early concept of developing a small, yet special, multi-purpose housing community began in 2003 when Ron Butler and Raymond McClinton met to discuss the need for such a community on the south east side of Asheville. Ron was a well established custom home builder and developer. Raymond had recently retired from a thirty-five year corporate career and also had investments in rental properties. At the time of these early discussions, Ron and Raymond had been partners in other real estate projects. These discussions later led to the development of Village Park.

One major aspect of the new community was that it is located in Buncombe County and less than two (2) miles from the city limits of Asheville. In 2005 the infrastructure development for Village Park was started on the thirty-six (36) acre site with the entrance off Hwy.74A.  The original plans as platted in 2005 showed thirty-eight (38) single family home sites, later reduced to thirty-six (36), and twenty-four (24) town homes, later reduced to twenty-three (23). The vacant property adjacent to the entrance of Village Park and identified as "future development" is privately owned and not an element of Village Park. The single family home sites would contain a minimum of one half (1/2) acre each. The HOA Declaration was finalized and officially recorded with Buncombe County in December 2005. Seven (7) amendments have been added since the original Declaration. The developers decided to allow the HOA residents of Village Park determine if their new community should become a gated community. The residents voted during our December 2010 annual HOA meeting to officially make Village Park a gated community.

The first single family lot was sold in 2006 and the first town home was sold in 2007. As of 2024, all twenty three (23) town homes have been completed and sold, and all single family lot are sold.

The original objective of Ron and Raymond was to build a community...not just another development.  The many positive comments expressed from the residents of Village Park strongly suggest that their original purpose has been achieved.
